Ammunition Hill was a fortified military post.
In 1975, a memorial site and museum were inaugurated on the hill, preserving a part of the old post and opening a museum in the bunker. In addition, 182 olive trees were planted on the hill, commemorating the 182 Israeli soldiers who died in the battle for Jerusalem during the Six-Day War.
The Ammunition Hill National Memorial provides guided tours and history lessons about the Battle of Ammunition Hill. Guests can see original trenches and bunkers, visit the Wall of Honour and enjoy presentations about the Six-Day War. The Wall was declared a national memorial in 1987. The main Jerusalem Day celebrations take place here. About 200,000 people visit the Ammunition Hill National Memorial every year.
